1. Grammarly
Grammarly is an AI-based online grammar correction and proofreading tool developed by a foreign company. It supports platforms like Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It is a powerful tool and one recommended by my advisor during my graduate studies.
Users can upload English documents or edit directly within the app. Grammarly performs grammar checks, punctuation corrections, context-based spelling checks, word usage reviews, and offers suggestions for improvement, including plagiarism detection. It also features personalized settings, tracking the number and types of grammar errors made. Compared to other grammar and spell checkers, Grammarly is more effective at identifying mistakes. Its basic features are free.
2. Google Docs with Video Conferencing Software (Google Hangouts, Skype, or Zoom)
With Google Docs, you can edit documents online in real time with others. By adding video conferencing to Google Docs, you gain a powerful resource for revising and editing, as collaborators can observe your writing process and join discussions. Editing with others is also one of the most enjoyable ways to work.
Google Docs is well-suited for revisions and edits because it allows you to share your article with anyone who has the link, making collaboration on writing, revising, and editing simple.
If your advisor is willing to polish your paper, using Google Docs is a foolproof choice. Instant feedback saves time and improves efficiency.
How to Share Google Docs:
- Click the blue “Share” button.
- Choose to share via email or copy the shareable link. Clicking “Get shareable link” is quicker.
- Copy the link and select one of these options:
- “Anyone with the link can edit.”
- If you only want people to comment, choose “Anyone with the link can comment.”
Now, when you share your document, you effectively have a virtual revision partner or group. Getting ideas, comments, and revision help from others is one of the best ways to improve your writing skills.
How to Use Google Docs with Video Conferencing:
- Open your preferred video conferencing software (Google Hangouts, Skype, or Zoom).
- Open the chat function and paste the link. Everyone on the call can click it and open the document simultaneously.
- Choose “Share Screen” to read, comment on, and revise the document together.
While Google Hangouts, Skype, and Zoom differ slightly, all options are effective. Skype and Google Hangouts offer free group calls, while Zoom’s free version allows 40-minute group calls. The paid version offers unlimited calls. Google Docs and Zoom have great connectivity, clear audio, and a whiteboard feature with markup and annotation tools.
